Everyone always asks me what I do for my own work-outs. I’ve posted some videos on my youtube page as well as people have seen me jumping around in my High Voltage class but on a week to week basis no one knows what I do unless you happen to bump in to me in the park or if you are a member of Club Mansfield.
I thought I would start posting some of my own work-outs for added motivation.
You have to remember I haven’t ALWAYS been in to health and fitness. There was a breif 2 year stint where I was a repair manager for Telus Mobility and ate McDonalds, drank Cherry Cola, and ate cookies and cream ice cream — yes it’s true! That was the old Mica!! The new Mica wouldn’t DARE touch pop or ice cream and McDonalds as it’s just NOT an option anymore. I would get sore from a 10K charity walk, pushing a heavy door open felt difficult, I could only do 6 “female” push-ups, and 30 seconds of running would kill me. So keep this is mind when you look at my work-outs that I have built up to this level over the last 7 years.
Working out is a constant challange for all of us… Even for us Personal Trainers who have all the knowledge we still need to kick ourselves in the butt too.
So here it is Micaela’s Cardio Session – Saturday September 11th 2010
If you’re from Montreal you have climbed up those killer stairs to the chalet in Parc Mont Royal at some point in your life.
I decided my goal was to complete 10 sets of stairs. It was a busy day in the mountain so I didn’t think a time goal was the best idea — just completion.
I ran up as fast as I possibly could for my first 5 sets – nonstop. I then ran/walked the next 5 sets as my legs were starting to feel dead. I had dance music pumping in my ears and my goal in my mind the entire time. I had a few people tell me I was crazy, asked me what I was training for or a just plain “why”?
They ask: How do you continue when you’re tired? My answer: Just plain competitiveness against myself — setting myself up for a realistic goal that I refuse to not accomplish, I think about my short and long term goals, any negative feelings I need to release, and the fact that I KNOW I will feel AMAZING afterwards!!
My legs were shaking at the end and I had to run 15 minutes back home but I was PUMPED after my 10 sets! I immediately had a contrast shower when I got home and stretched my lower body like crazy!!
I challenge anyone who has been doing the same cardio routine for a while to try out the stairs – I wouldn’t start with running up them or 10 sets. But maybe try walking up and down 5 times! Let me know how it goes!!
