Yesterday CBC reported that 3 Montreal men claim to have created the world’s greasiest Québécois sandwich.
They call it the”Angry French-Canadian,” and it totals 5,343 calories. It contains an entire package of bacon, three hot dogs (with bun), and poutine (french fries, cheese and gravy for you non-Montrealers who don’t know what that is), all crushed between a 20-inch French toast baguette cooked with a dozen eggs and dripping in maple syrup. The total amount of fat — 207 grams. (See Video Below)
So how much fat should you have in a day? Well, 207g is EXACTLY how much fat I would consume in a WEEK!!
What does eating over 5000 calories in one sitting do a persons body?? What happens to all of those calories when you overeat and over indulge?
When you overeat you are pretty much stretching your stomach like a balloon. Most people who have “overeaten” report sleepiness, nausea, heartburn, burping, and sometimes even a shortness of breath. It can spike your blood sugar levels, elevate your heart rate and make you feel as death is upon you!
Proteins, Carbohydrates and Fat – all – if eaten in excess, will be stored as fat. Your body uses what it needs and stores the rest. No one needs 5000 calories in one sitting.
Now, if a pound of body fat = 3500 calories — eating a sandwich such as “the angry french Canadian” will guarantee a 1.5 pound rise on the scale if you had already consumed your daily allotment of calories.
So how can you BURN 5343 calories to melt 1.5 pounds? For myself, weighing in at a whopping 115 pounds – with almost 100 pounds of that being lean mass – I would have to run for 13.5 hours!!
Obviously this sandwich is excessive. Most people aren’t doing this on a weekly basis or EVER for that matter – but the truth is, when the weekends come a lot of people who have been PERFECT with their eating and exercise all week let all their hard work go down the toilet by overeating/drinking in just one or two meals.
Lesson to be learned:
Don’t eat a 5300 calorie sandwich – obviously. But also – DO indulge on the weekend if you’re just looking to maintain your weight but don’t overdo it either. Stop when you’re full and try and throw in a few glasses of water between those glasses of wine.
